MY MOTIVATION FOR RUNNING

To continue serving the
Geneseo community

The purpose of the Town Council is to build a thriving community - from basic infrastructure (water, roads, waste management) to development that supports the health of all residents. I am passionate about community-building and I want to be on the Town Council to connect and re-connect residents of the town with each other so we can build a healthy community together - we can't do it alone.I have lived and worked in Geneseo for 12 years; I’ve lived on the lake, in the village, and settled in the town - on Country Club Road - for the past 9 years. Each aspect of the Town is critical to support and grow, together.

About Meg

I live in Geneseo, NY. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA and my family is from many places throughout Wisconsin. I felt at home in Geneseo the moment I moved here in 2013. It was a reminder of the blue collar, rustbelt roots that I am proud of and place where I wasn't put into a box.I've picked up and dropped many hobbies throughout my life. The couple things that have stayed true: I love to be outside (and I'm grateful to have kids to remind me that there are worse things than getting wet or cold - like not being able to dry off or warm up); I love to play anything and everything and to watch the joy of others playing; I love to hear about others' experiences and lives (preferably over coffee at Crickets, Sweet Arts, and Cosmic Charlie or a walk through town).Below are two poems for you to learn more about me. They are not entirely original (as they come from templates) and I think they can share a window into who I am and what matters to me for those who do not know.

"I Am" Poem

I am playful and thoughtful.I wonder about experiences other than my own.
I hear hope and laughter.
I see joy in connection and purpose.
I want to leave the world better than how I came into it.
I am playful and thoughtful.I pretend I’m an elite ice hockey player.
I feel the wind in my face on my bicycle.
I touch the bark of trees.
I worry about the sadness and anxiety of kids.
I cry when I know better and still don’t do better.
I am playful and thoughtful.I understand that we are more alike than different.
I say what my dad said: “Everyone has something to offer”
I dream about infrastructure for people on the human-scale.
I try to learn and change in response to new knowledge.
I hope we put others before ourselves.
I am playful and thoughtful.

"I Am From" Poem

I am from love and independence,
from landline phones and Word Perfect 2.0 and floppy disk Oregon Trail.
I am from rowhouses and shared yards
and family-made furniture.
I am from overgrown weeds
whose relentless efforts to be valued echo my own.
I am from books and a record player,
from Andy, Fae, Alex, Becky, Betty, and Don.
from hard work and service to others,
from “sometimes you just gotta let them dance”.
I am from camping in the woods,
from beef wellington and awful falafel.
I am from immigration to Wisconsin
and farming on the great plains of eastern Colorado and Nebraska
I am from the rustbelt
from unions and educators
from play as the ultimate way to grow and connect.
I am from moments of joy, wonder, curiosity, and discovery of more questions.
